Despise You

American powerviolence band from Inglewood, California, formed in 1994. The group is noted for helping influencing the powerviolence movement and for their bleak lyrics about topics such as gang violence, misanthropy, and self-hate, They've been described as "the angriest band in the world" by some.

And On And On…

Despise You's 18 tracks consist of two vocalists (one pissed-off-sounding dude and a second, much higher-pitched voice that either belongs to a woman or a small boy) provide an interesting, almost Atari Teenage Riot-style contrast to each other, and track titles like "They All Died Is What Happened," "Bankrupt Social Code," and "Yes Officer/No Officer" convey a classic hardcore/punk spirit. Despise You are the winners, but both bands deliver what their fans expect on this entertaining release. - Phil Freeman (allmusic.com).

West Side Horizons

I have to admit to gulping initially when I saw the sheer volume of material on West Side Horizons, and it certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. You could certainly envision it fitting onto either of Napalm Death’s Leaders Not Followers releases. Taken in its entirety, the album was impressive for how surprisingly tight and accomplished the musicianship was with not an ounce of fat on any of the tracks; combine this with the throat shredding vocals of Lulu Hernandez and Chris Elder, and you get an indication as to why Despise You are so revered within the powerviolence scene. - New Noise Magazine.
